chop chop choperty chop

First pics of the Belle

My Next project is.....

Revells 1/48 B17F Memphis Belle. Lots of nasty green plastic, no real detail and soft soft old moulding. I'm gonna have to chop chop away LOL!!!

First plan is to open the fuselage doors and remove the moving surfaces ready to add a bit of interest. Might put some added scratch detail inside.

Final (ish) pics of my Revell 1/32nd Mk22 Spitfire.

So matted down and weathered pics of the mk22 by Revell. I chopped the ailerons, rudder and elevators/horizontal stabilisers to give a bit of interest. I had to support the main undercarriage with 2.5mm mains electrical copper cable stripped back to the copper and super glued into each U/C leg that I'd drilled out with my pin vice. I did the weathering before buying a book called the complete fighting history of the spitfire. It became clear that a fighting spit looked even more weather beaten than this looking at the pics in this book!

Hope those that look-in like the model. I really enjoyed making it.

major cock ups R US :o(

Well there I was covering the almost finished spit with matt cote "that looks a bit shiney" i thought. "it'll matt down when its dry".......

Next morning it was, if anything shinier doh!

The label on the bottle deffo said matt cote NOT gloss cote.

Got some work to do methinks!

Quick update on the mk22

The gunsight was made up from ickle bits and bobs from my stash of asda ice cream cartons and clear plastic from old kits. The clear plastic was a ba@t*rd to cut being so small and brittle I've now got lots of broken clear bits all over my workroom LOL!!

Changing the undercarriage hydraulic lines

I had used 5amp fuse wire for the undercarriage hydraulic lines but after they went on they looked too thin for the scale, so tonight I took them off and will be replacing them with thicker fuse wire. I don't have any kicker for the superglue I have so it still takes time all good though.

No reflector gunsight!!!!!

I've just realised that Mr. Revell has neglected to provide a gunsight in the kit. At 1/32nd I can't have that so I'm currently researching pics. I can find pics on a mk1 and a mk2 gunsight but so far nothing concrete on which version was in the later mk22 spit.......heres hoping I can find a pic of one and then get together the bits to scratch one up.
